We had a lead and FAU shooting terrible. This IS NOT the game to play Brown significant minutes. Its 4 vs 5 with him in the game.
Then he puts in Cooper and Young in alongside him. THAT is the reason we spotted UAB a 22 point lead. Not even the 2008 team is good enough to overcome 22 down on the road at FAU this year.
He just never learns. I think Penny is a good coach in many facets of the game, but he uses his personnel worse than any coach in D1 history and its not even close
I hope you like Crow. You’ll have a plate full of it here soon.
The likelihood is high that he won’t have to eat crow. In that scenario, will you come and give him props for his take?

This has been the most frustrating of Penny's teams to figure out. Anytime I think I got them figured out they No show.

At some point, you have to realize that is just ain't happening with Penny.
He can probably coach here as long as he wants to but - this is as good as it gets with him. He's hit his ceiling.

What does support Coach Hardaway mean? Let’s say one more year (that’s 7 years) and no sweet 16s. Even then? Or how about a decade and no sweet 16s? A coach over the program? I would question your Tiger fanhood then.

Problem is without dandridge and mills we basically only go 5 deep. Who are you gonna play? The starters have to get some rest and quinnerly had picked up a second foul and was doing dumb ****. I don’t like some of these lineups either tbh but at this point we don’t even really have anything good to choose from on the bench. Only thing that’s gave us any chance at all this season is nabbing Tomlin.
Be smart with the subbing. A lineup of Young, Brown, Cooper, Jaden and only 1 starter is a recipe for disaster. Gotta keep 3 starters in most times. We don’t have enough depth of talent to fool around with lineups.
100%. We were up 5 or 6 in the 1st half when we started that mess and giftwrapped FAU confidence and momentum with that lineup
The margin of error is thin in high stakes games such as today. Penny still hasn’t learned when to reign in the crazy substitutions. There’s a time and place for that but that wasn’t today.
I’ve been on the play Brown more team for a while but now he waits until today? That second time he came in turned the game around. And we never led again

Let’s assume Penny steps away after this season… who and how long do we assume for a rebuild? If you had your realistic pick of who would come here next season, who would that be? Do we give that guy three/four seasons to make the tourney? What’s his impact going to be on NIL?
Folks are fine to want more but the “f Penny” crowd never think about the downside of if he just stepped away. Combination of folks being delusional, uninformed, and out of touch with the game beyond the game now with the portal/NIL/our conference standing.

I don’t want him to step away. I want him to stop being stubborn. He knows the game obviously. But he’s hard headed when it comes to his sub pattern. When he subs before the first media timeout it’s never a good thing

There won't be a rebuild. No good coach will come here. It'll take three accidentally good hires in a row and 7-8 years of solid success to rebuild the brand. It's not ever happening again at Memphis. Every 15-20 years there will be a good team and then the coach that did that will be hired away.

Tomlin and Jourdain both had only 1 foul in the first half. FAU is not a big team 1-4. If one of our two bigs needs a breather, the team will get by with a 4 guard lineup esp since Walton and Jones are big guards. Also playing Brown with Jaden, Cooper and Young at the same time is a recipe for disaster.
Because Brown played 10 mins in 1H my guy. That’s the point.

We aint getting nobody to come in here and do a better job. Yall act like we are used to going to the sweet 16 and beyond. We’ve definitely had our runs but we aint a blue blood as much as I would like to think we can be. Just buckle up and enjoy this week with some positivity and get behind the team you love or dont. Each to their own

Brown should have played 0 mins my guy.
After the first 2 mins it was obvious dude didn’t have it…get him outta the game. If Penny can sub a starter out after 2 mins of game time, he can sub Brown out instead of riding him until the team’s momentum is completely reversed. The last shot Brown got blocked Tomlin gave him the look of what the hell kind of shot was that?

Exactly. With the NIL, there is no program rebuilding. If Penny walked away, then we’d hire a capable replacement & keep buying players.

At some point, you have to realize that is just ain't happening with Penny.
He can probably coach here as long as he wants to but - this is as good as it gets with him. He's hit his ceiling.
Is Penny still rebuilding in year 6?
Penny rebuilds every year, lol. NCAA bubble team is his ceiling.
Exactly. With the NIL, there is no program rebuilding. If Penny walked away, then we’d hire a capable replacement & keep buying players.
Ain't no proven coach coming here.
