How was it dumb? You look at the caliber of players he has brought in and ran off then compare it to his results it’s easy to conclude he has failed here. Pretty simple

One of Pennys flaws is he does not work the officials. He also plays some crazy lineups, our teams are not focused, or confident, and consistantly under-achieve.

Just when you think he is over the young coach hump his coaching gets exposed like it did today.

Almost every great basketball coach is an emotional leader. That is just not Pennys style and I'm not sure he can motivate players to win on a top tier level.

All that said he is certainly not a failure, but he isn't exactly a great basketball mind. This was a very disappointing effort, after a week off, against a team we should have been fired up against.

It is what it is, for better or worse. Dreams of a Natty are not realistic imo, during his tenure, but who knows. He is a great recruiter, so there is always a chance he recruits the next Magic and Kareem.

When the video review clearly shows that the opposite happened compared to the call that was ultimately made, it goes beyond that.

How do you think Bobby Knight or Rick Pitino would have reacted to the officiating? Bruce Pearl or John Calipari? Penny is just too laid back. It is what it is and I don't see that changing.

They would have gotten a technical, giving up more points, handed the ball to the opponent, and the call still wouldn't have changed.

I think you miss my point. Most all great basketball coaches know how to act out emotionally on the sideline to fire their teams up and get equitable calls from the officials. It is a part of the game.
