RE: Most Hated Man in Memphis?
X came before Y.

I hate Coach Y.

Y is he still here?
Y is he allowed to sh*t on the program?
Y is he allowed to sh@t on the students?
Y do all his recruits transfer?
Y is he holding a stack of flashcards?

Many people who like him have advised him to find a job and get out-- just as you are saying. Gary Parrish is one of several, so either he doesn't listen to them(smiling and nodding his head as they're advising him) all the while thinking he can make this work here- as you say delusional. Or no other schools want him. I personally would want out. I would want to get my family and be free of unpleasant stuff and massive pressure.

I have no personal problem with him and hate is a very strong word. He's just someone who is overpaid and who is bad at his job. I don't blame him for taking a ridiculously one sided contract.

I'm not a fan of the pop shots he's taking at the program in some interviews but mentally I think he's probably under a ton of stress and never has been a great interview so he's probably making some stupid comments.

Is he a good guy? Really? The way he's taken shots at the program and history? Constantly throwing players under the bus? Forcing players out? Putting them in the doghouse and playing favorites? Micromanaging to the xth degree. Making arrogant proclamations about bad fans? Etc etc?

Oh, so he responds to emails and calls people in the hospital? A lot of coaches do the same. Ok. Let's knight him. A whole lot of coaches do the same thing. Pastner is not some unique snowflake here. There are similar stories in CA archives about cal you know. It's all a part of the game

Hate is a strong word.

Why would you 'hate' someone who is a coach? Resent is probably the more appropriate word.

This message board is spiraling down....Now the work he does and doesn't seek attention doing is being called 'a game'. Sad people.

I think it could be argued that what Josh may have done more harm to the program than Cal. That's just my opinion and I do agree that Josh is and/or will become the most hated man in Memphis. Certainly the one of the least respected.

It could be argued? It could be argued?

I'd say it's pretty freaking definite. Cal built a powerhouse national brand that allowed pastner to grab all these McDonald's all Americans. You think pastner could've done any of this coming off Johnny jones? No. Freaking. Way. Cal bailed the program and pushed us back to the spotlight. I root against Kentucky but it's myopic to not see or deny what cal did for the program. Our "good fans" act like a Bunch of scorned 13 year old girls

I agree with everything you said here.

What is the reason he is still here. What is the big picture?

I don't buy that this has anything to do with potential the Big 12 invite.

We may or may not get invited to the Big 12. Is there something else hanging out there or is that it?

If you say that's IT how do you KNOW that's IT?

RE: Most Hated Man in Memphis?
Why the hell would Cal be hated more than Opie?

Cal brought us a top 10 national basketball program that beat high level competition regularly and made deep tourney runs.

Opie destroyed all of that and turned our program into a complete joke. A joke that we can't afford to buy our way out of.

If one side was trying to gain some leverage in contract negotiations, where they had very little, this is exactly how it would look.

You want out. We want out. You hold the cards. So we're not getting out. Now how badly do you want out?

This is how I feel. Some of our idiot fans have taken it way too far. He seems like a really good dude that's a crap coach.

I disagree with this if you are saying we have lots of fans that have taken it to far. What proof do you have that fans have taken it too far? People calling him Opie isn't an example of taking it too far. Also I'm not sure how good of a guy he is. When he's taking shots at our fanbase and students and talking about vacated sweet 16's isn't cool at all and doesn't make an all ready unhappy fanbase like the dude.

Just read the board.

Well would you agree that the fans on this board are in the huge minority of the overall fanbase? and not all posters on this board are cruel in regards to Josh. Josh did sign up for a pressure cooker and he also brought this on himself. It's not my style to be vicious towards him. That being said---he is by far my least favorite coach. I don't like him at all. He makes a really fun thing horrible. Is it great that he visits sick people-certainly it is. But that doesn't have anything to do with running the Tiger hoops program. He simply can do himself a big big favor along with his wife and his dad and move along---instead of shoving toothpicks under everyone's fingernails, including his own. This is a square peg being rammed down a circle hole.

There are some who are so obsessed with trying to prove that he's 100% fake beyond him just being over his head as a coach. I know we can't name names per rules but most know who we're talking about around here. That obsession is just plain weird to some of us. We know that Josh is failliable and have faults just like anyone else on this earth but this trying to catch him in act is bizarre

RE: Most Hated Man in Memphis?
I will tell you this: if CJP keeps up with the recent comments, YES, he should become the most hated man in Memphis.

I will clue you in: you do NOT take in $2.65m/year (and on a relative basis he's doing unreal) and then, while you watch season tix sales nosedive, say the following:

1. Students are a problem (not only is that self-serving, it is also WRONG, seriously, the reason we stunk it up this year is not due to poor student attendance);

2. Dissing our history as a program.

Now, CJP might be feeling the heat and might be full on trolling, but I don't hate the guy. I DO hate what he's done to the program, however. Hate the sin, love the sinner.

The trolling? I will cut him some slack for now, but if he keeps up with the snarkiness, then, yeah, he will have earned some of the venom.

I would say that Willie Herenton still holds down that title. I do not see Pastner getting to that level.

I like CJP but he needs to turn it around or hit the road. I'm not buying his excuses anymore and he needs a history lesson on Tiger basketball.
