He should man up to the fact that the program needs a change, and cut the university a deal and go away for a reduced amount. He should "take the high road" and walk away for an amount that does not hurt the university for the foreseeable future.

I want to see him prove how big of a "nice guy" he really is.

What! Take the high road.....in a straight jacket I guess. I agree there needs to be a change; but you can't be serious.

Stranger things have been predicted (e.g., Conference COY.)

RE: Pastner Going Thru the Motions
Imagine the negotiations for a buyout....
Us:We'd like to fire you for 5mil
JP: no

Negotiation is over. No buyout agreement in contract = no buyout.

In my career and industry everyone knows when someone is 'persona non grata' and being 'managed out of the company'. Hardly anyone can endure the treatment by management and stick around to actually be fired. Daily 1:1 inspections, micro managing, inspecting calendars every day, mandated travel away from home .... they make it intolerable. You're better off negotiating a mutually agreeable voluntary departure.

True 80sTiger. I worked for GE for years, and they would just make your life miserable until you left.

But the money in this case is exponentially different. For $2.7M per year, you put up with a lot of crap.

And Josh is just different. He probably really thinks he is doing a good job.

This is indeed the wild card. You can put up with a lot for that kind of money I would assume. But at some point you have to ask yourself with millions in the bank and a nicely negotiated $ departure, is the stress, embarrassment, ridicule, impact of your family, career, etc all worth it ? Sometimes it is - but that's the piece around negotiation.

I'm sure Pastner thinks he's been doing the best he can, maybe even that everyone is being unreasonable. But he's not stupid. He knows. So he's probably been looking himself. I'm telling you - that game last night looked like a team being coached by someone very, very disinterested, in spite of the technical. Even for Pastner.

Yep, even after this season he gets 10.8 M over 4 years to not coach. Declining at about 2.65 M per year for each year beyond this one that we keep him as the coach.

If a change was going to be made the time to do it was after last season before the auto-extension kicked in.

...

The way the contract is structured, it would have been 10.6 to fire him before the extension kicked in in April. It was a 5 year contract that automatically tacked on an extra year in 2014 and 2015.

Honestly, if we approached him and said, hey we will give you a lump sum 5-6mil if you walk and you can coach anywhere else you'd like, he might just take it

Hey Mapdude, I have thought the same thing many times, but never posted it.

We gave Pastner a chance, he didn't have to prove himself at Northwest Eastern Valley State or the like. Yet, to show his appreciation, when he had initial success, he started going for other jobs.

RC bought it when Josh went for the USC job, and now we are stuck.

I know he is good in the community, for $2.7M a year I would be good too.

RC ... WAS.... NOT... HERE... WHEN ... HE .... GOT ... THAT... EXTENSION!!!!
