Pastner - Busy Body
In an act of meddling, Pastner pushed Andre Allen and others to finish their college degree.

Pastner should focus more on his current team and less on former players getting their degree. Winning is all that matters, right?

Maybe because he's been thrown under the bus lately more than freshly laid asphalt?
Some people like to report good news knowing full well the thread will take an anti-Pastner detour?

I think he's illustrating the point that Coach Pastner has a number of remarkable qualities, despite the deserved and undeserved criticism he receives on this board.

So, of the 4 responses, 2 are whining about "miserables" ruining a positive thread (and actually did not compliment Pastner in general or specifically helping AA graduate) and yet not one other poster has said a negative comment about Pastner in the thread... Keep up the good work...

Pushed or not Andre Allen did the the schoolwork and graduated, not an easy thing to by any stretch. Congratulations to him and any other person athlete or not who can accomplish this feat!

RE: Pastner - Busy Body
It was Tigers coach Josh Pastner who Allen said stayed on him about finishing his degree. Allen, a former Booker T. Washington High star and fan favorite at Memphis from 2005-08 for the bulldog way he played point guard, had been just one class short of earning his degree in interdisciplinary studies.
"He wanted me to get my degree," Allen said. "He was like, 'You've got to get on it. Stay on it.' Like, he'd call and check on me. 'Where you at? How your grades doing? Have you gotten this done?' "
"Josh was really the driver behind it," said Streets Ministries founder Ken Bennett, one of Allen's longtime mentors. "If he wasn't bothering Andre, he was bothering me."

The vast majority of people realize and acknowledge Pastner has some very good qualities. The only real questioning or doubting I see about him is his ability to be a head coach. There is no doubt that when it comes to graduation rates and being a good person in general that JP fits those characteristics.

I will give huge credit to Pastner for laying off the coach speak and giving actual sincere and realistic comments in his interviews, about his team and players... much, much better. I will also say I like the way we're finally getting up and down and scoring some in transition which is historically the exciting Tiger Basketball brand, though I do understand some of you can stomach a 1/2 court game. Our D is getting better with the exception of on the perimeter which is helping with the transition game. I'd still like to see more 1/2 court press/traps to push for more transition play and easier scoring.
Overall there is marked improvement and I'll give JP credit for that... But, it's still and will always be mostly about recruiting/talent, which is where I'm concerned. To be among the elite, you must have the elite players, consistently... I know there were circumstances, but think where we'd be if we now had say.. Skal, and kept AN to go along with D. Lawson and Co.? It's all about the horses in the stable, and I'm just not sure JP can corral those horses. Maybe he'll prove me wrong.

Everyone likes Josh. Everyone wants Josh to win. Not everyone thinks he can.
I hope he wins me over, as a coach. He won me over as a great human being years ago.
