So Pasnter was informed via email AND in the June 22 meeting.

And yet he was still holding the release over Austin's head angling to strong-arm another meeting?

Wow

Try to follow along.

- Email sent by AN's dad
- One on one meeting with Pastner, where AN tells him he is excited about the upcoming season
- Meeting with dad where AN keeps his head buried in a ball cap and says nothing or next to nothing

I'm sure what happens every single time is that when a player wants to transfer, that the coach/program is told by that player in a one on one meeting, that they are leaving, or the coach/program requests a meeting. At that time the player meets with the program and the transfer is processed.

What doesn't happen EVER is where a fan fights tooth and nail to say that there is nothing wrong with a player not being a man and agreeing to meet with the coach. What doesn't happen ever is where a fan fights tooth and nail against an actual meeting.

mon 6/22, nichols and family verbally tell pastner face to face they want a transfer

4 days later, send an email, officially requesting a transfer

7/7 Pastner said he's never been told face to face about a transfer

7/8 news surfaces that they had met face to face

7/9 we get the "haven't spoken in 2 weeks" lingo

7/9 Bowen issues release

Game. Set. Match.

I will go with DeCourcy and Seth Davis. You can wander off into the sunset with Promiscuous Jawa.

It's about time somebody started dropping mikes around here again, I get a commission every time they do, but it had become so cliche that everybody stopped.

The tough thing to do is to keep working at it, fight through distractions and maximize your potential. Don't quit just because you are upset about something. Don't quit unless you know deep in your heart you don't want to play. I love and support you no matter what decision you make.

If you want to stay at Memphis, I support you. If you think there is a better opportunity for you at another school, I support you. When you do make your decision, you have a responsibility to address your coach, your team and the media about what you choose to do. Some of them won't like it if you leave, and they'll criticize you. That's OK. All you can do is follow your heart and stand firm in your decision. This is your life. I'm not going to speak for you. I'm here to support you as your dad and to help you figure out how to make good decisions on your own."

Here's what a dad shouldn't do:

Publicly, to the media: "We are sorting through our options right now. We've invested a lot of time and money into this product...I mean our son. We believe it will be better for us...I mean him...if we...I mean he...gets out of Memphis and goes to another school. I...I mean he...had strongly considered schools outside of Memphis during our...his original recruitment. I'll let you know when I...he...has made a decision."

The stories on DeAndre Jordan and Nichols are identical. Both changed their minds on late notice. Both dumped on some coach and team. Let's focus on that. Let's forget the fact that DeAndre chose NOT to leave his coach and team.

Iverson retweeted. Tarik walked out of a practice. Nichols didn't do the majority of the talking in his face-to-face. Let's focus on that. Those are the real issues. It doesn't do any good to speak negatively about the sorry state of our basketball program, but posting hundreds of comments about those issues is extremely productive. Good grief.
