Leaked proposed 70 team “super league” with 10 team under-league
This is just a proposal but its s little insight into the eventual direction of college football… and likely basketball.

Sportico recently obtained a “confidential” pitch deck, which was circulated by the group in mid-February. The document contains a number of previously unreported details, including a specific plan for sharing broadcast revenue with players, a 40-game spring football “festival,” and a preliminary look at how the Super League’s 70 permanent members might be arranged in seven geographically aligned leagues.

College Sports Tomorrow (CST), a collection of U.S. sports team owners, executives and college administrators, has spent months trying to distill the current upheaval in intercollegiate athletics into an entirely new business model. The group includes Devils/Sixers owner David Blitzer, NFL executive Brian Rolapp, Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, Syracuse chancellor Kent Syverud and TurnkeyZRG chairman and CEO Len Perna.

The eighth division comprises 10 schools from what the deck calls the “Under League,” the rest of the teams in college football’s top tier. That division rotates every year—eight of the 10 are relegated each season and replaced by the eight teams that play in the Under League’s playoff. The rest of the Under League is organized in eight different divisions of seven teams, which are not detailed in the deck.

I don’t think this happens because the SEC and Big 10 give up a lot to be equals with the other 2 power conferences after working the last 30 years to distance themselves from them. However, this would pretty much stick a fork in Tiger athletics. So it’ll probably be announced sometime next week with the way our luck goes

If this happens, I'm gone from college sports forever. I'm already close to getting there anyways. If America wanted minor league football and basketball, one of the many but failed leagues would have succeeded. The success of college sports hasn't been in it trying to mimic pro sports. And all of these greedy ba$tard$ are gonna find this out the hard way. But unfortunately they will have ruined college sports in the process.

The pull of college football and college basketball isnt the high standard of play. Compared to the NFL and NBA, the standard of play in the college version is exceptionally low. The pull for college sports is the tribalism of the whole setup. Any change in college sports made by the system itself needs to work to keep that pull as strong as possible.

If Haslam is involved in any way it will be a CF. Especially for us. He’s a big UT booster and from what I’ve heard, could screw up a wet dream…

100% agree.

This sort of arrangement combined with the current NIL and transfer portal will stick a permanent fork in any interest I have in college sports.

I have too many other amazing interests in my life to care one bit about minor league sports.

We aren't. There are scores of these new alignment proposals out there. We are on fewer and fewer of them. The trend is alarming.

As if the SEC or B1G would ever approve such a change.

Not that it matters because this thing is DOA, but that under league list is waaaay off. Its leaving off Tulane, San Diego St, Memphis and has Troy on the list.

The Big 12 also shot it down. Apparently the ACC was the only conference that showed interest in it.

I've long thought a system with relegation would be a good idea to try in college football. However there's too much money involved and it'll never happen. Can you imagine if Mississippi or Vandy got relegated? The political stink that they would cause would kill the whole system.

I wonder why…

I’m too lazy to read the article… but I’m mildly interested…

So who put the list of teams together. Some folks wasted a lot of time… unless they got paid and made a party of it

The only thing the power conferences have to worry about is how to invest the money they're making.

I do wonder if those same fans will remain excited about supporting minor league sports that happen to be their alma mater...the next decade will get interesting for sure.

Hard to really get into the basketball games anymore when you spend the first 1/3 of the season just learning the players names every year.

Leaked

Someone leaked or sold or didn’t secure a list of the chosen…

I doubt that. Maybe a Test balloon !

Or maybe the idea already crashed and no one cared if it ‘leaked’. So they sold it to the highest bidder. I wonder how many clicks sportico amassed so far.
