Exclamation Lean into it: we need a 30,000 person OCS
Tigers attendance at Liberty Bowl Stadium:
57 year average - 28,539
Fuente average - 32,640
Norvell average - 33,662
Silverfield average* - 29,091

*excludes 2020 Covid year

Move the Field House to a 5,000 to 7,500 person arena next to the Brad R Martin Rec Center where the parking lot is. Play women’s basketball there and use it for graduation so we don’t have to rely on Grizzlies playoff schedule to set a date.

Replace Memorial Field, The Field House, and Tiger Garden with a Tulane, Cincinnati, SMU size stadium.

Use the state funds to do it and own our facilities.

Sounds great. Since we know the State isn't funding this, when are you writing the check?

Then spend the next 30 years losing money on operational cost and upkeep.

The city loses close to a million dollars every year operating SLBS with 4 paying tenants.

But city makes up for the losses by taxes revenue generated by events at the stadium.

The state has appeared to be buying into the strength of the UofM potential as a western 4 year institution. I think the products of this, like moving research from $31m to $87m in five years and the new infrastructure funding demonstrate this commitment.

If I missed an OCS fundraiser on the development site, forgive me - please drop the link. I’d be happy to commit $10k for sure.

Sorry, that $10K won't even fund the initial planning. Touch base when you can add a bunch more zeroes and we'll get things moving.

The state has literally told the last 3 presidents they will not fund it. Jesus, why beat your head in.

Absolutely! I didn’t realize Memphis didn’t have any other boosters. The development office reports and athletic fundraising reports seem to indicate there are boosters and funders who do give a significant amount to the school each year. Do you have links to share that indicate the UofM doesn’t fundraise? I’d be curious to dig in there. Thanks!

Happy to read an article where the current president was told no. I’m not finding it on Google though! I’ll keep searching. Thanks for the info.

When did I make any of the claims you're pulling from thin air? You want an OCS? You can pay for it outright, spearhead the fundraising, or lobby our government to foot the bill. From where I'm sitting, there isn't any support for an OCS and no amount of wishful thinking is going to change the circumstances. If I'm in error, you're welcome to demonstrate how with your own research.

I dont know that the State funds could go toward an OCS instead of SBLS, as long as the City decided that was the best path forward. Of course, idk that for certain, and not necessarily advocating for it. Would the Liberty Bowl Game be OK with it? It’s worth exploring. ?‍♂️

I would be willing to bet that there is a 0% chance the money goes towards an OCS versus the Liberty Bowl.

it sounds like the next Mayor is saying the Liberty Bowl will get 150 million for it's renovation so lets do that.

The winning argument, I was asking for your source. I’m typically going to push back when people essentially talk smack about the Tigers - hence, my push here. Best of luck!

Fair. I do hope that if we are able to secure the funds for a 53,000 - 55,000 all out renovation of the LBS that we can tarp off down to 40,000 or 30,000.

Historically, even in the Norvell years, we were around 32,000 to 33,000 fans. It'd be nicer to look 75% full than 50% full.

Having a stadium that has too big of a footprint isn't fully ideal, but there are ways to minimize the look on TV.

Remember growing up when you crossed the state line there was a sign that said welcome to the three states of Tennessee.

That was absolutely the truth when it comes to state funding.

You had the political power of the state capital in middle Tennessee and of course that school in the eastern part of the state.

Many times they went out of their way to remind west Tennessee that we were the outsider.

Such as the racing commission, west Tennessee was the only part that legalized horse racing, but middle and east Tennessee controlled the majority of the seats on the commission. EVERY license application was DOA.
