So if it's not a rivalry, then explain this
First off, let me say that I received my acceptance letter from the University of Memphis Graduate School for this fall, which means that I get to leave the "Velvet Ditch" that is Oxford, Mississippi, in about a week.

As some of you may know, I run a restaurant just off of the Square here in Oxford. Last night I was waiting on a guest from Gulfport, and he did something that I really couldn't believe. I have a "Leaping Tiger" logo decal on my server book, to serve as a kind of jab at the fans down here. All of my regulars from Oxford, and most of them from Jackson know that I am a huge Tigers fan, and when they comment on my sticker, they do so in a joking manner. I've waited on Mike Bianco, who was very complimentary of the Memphis baseball team, and I just waited on Andy Kennedy, and we talked a little bit about Memphis and the job that Cal is doing. I've even waited on Orgeron himself the day after he was hired, and he was even joking around with me and the rest of the table. But this guy last night, asked me about it, I told him that I had to represent "my" team down here, and I thought that was it. He actually called my boss over to the table, made him sit down, and explain to him that he would have tipped me more if not for my sticker. My service was great, but he couldn't believe that I was allowed to display that sticker in this town. Of course, like most restaurant patrons who are afraid to tell the server that they are unhappy, he decided to "tattle" on me to my boss, who told the man that I was a huge Memphis fan, and he didn't really see how that should upset anyone. Now, like I said, this guy was from the coast, so how is this not a rivalry? I honestly couldn't believe this ******* had the audacity and immaturity to say this. Unbelievable.

did you cry when you got home? glad to hear you're leaving oxford. what do you expect when you're trying to jab at Ole Miss fans? sounds like you have a problem with people that are fans of other schools. personally, I hope you pick a good section of memphis to live (like near campus). 03-hissyfit

"Jabs" are one thing, but making it an issue related to one's employment seems to be taking the situation a bit far.

If somebody in Memphis is waiting on me wearing an Ole Miss pin, it doesn't affect how I tip them, and it certainly isn't a big enough deal to involve their boss.

Seems like someone with the nickname "memphisrebel" might be a little more understanding of someone pulling for his/her team in the heart of a rivals territory.

By the way, what did you mean by the comment on the "good section" of Memphis?

What else would you expect from an OM fan? I guess he wasn't a Southern gentleman like the rest of them? ;-)

Could you actually understand Coach O or did he have to have an interpreter?

this guy's a clown. he hates everything ole miss and he makes up stupid stories to try to make the game mean more. for people from memphis and around the midsouth, this game is a rivalry. to people from alabama, louisiana, florida, carolina...that attend or attended ole miss, this game means nothing more than the wake forest game. not everyone from ole miss comes from memphis.

surely you can figure out finding a nice location in memphis means

Ok, how is this for a story for all your wonderful classy fans at Ole Piss. Two years ago at the game I was leaving with my friends. A little old lady was in the crowd with us and we were going down a side of a hill and the grass and everything were wet (she was all decked out in ole miss stuff too might I add). She was having a tough time with the hill and the wet grass, so my friends and I decided to go grab her arms and help her down the hill (as everyone walked by not doing anything). As we got her to the bottom, she thanked us while the people around were looking at us saying "go to hell Memphis". Just thought I would throw that story in there so you can put all your dumb a$$ ole miss loving fans in context. Y'all ain't perfect, get over it.

I rode the bus last trip to Oxford, and they lined the highway and gave us the bird.

But, the best yet--the year we beat Eli's bunch in LB--after the game my wife and I went to cracker barell in Horn Lake. The cashier made the remark to an Miss fan that he was probaly having a bad day, so she wouldn't ask, and that she was sorry his team lost. he went ballistic and called this teenager a !@#$ and asked to see her manager.

How ironic--CRACKER-barrell. 04-chairshot

Some, like all schools, are decent people. We, too, have our share of idiots.

I can assure you that the gentleman who made the original post is no "clown."

And if by your "nice location" comment, you were implying that the area around the University of Memphis is not a nice place to live, then congratulations on displaying the shortage of class that many University of Mississppi fans are accused of (rightly or wrongly).

Perhaps you and oxfordtiger should simply trade zip codes.

Thanks, I do consider myself lucky. She is a very realistic old mrs fan, I know, hard to believe. She had no problem with tuberville leaving for auburn but thought cutcliff had to go. She likes the Tigers too and always surprises me the Tigers stuff and even paid for me to paly in the HH golf tourney. She even bought me one of bossman's shirts.

Thanks for having my back, BJ, and he can gladly have my old residence in about a week, when I get to leave this place. I really cannot believe that I've been here this long. 4 long years. . .
