I simply said that I believed Petrino to be overrated. To me, he definitely wouldn't be worth a 10 year $25 million deal. Sure he's been successful, but I just don't think he's worth the trouble.

I can guarantee you that they'll either be renegotiating that contract or he'll be gone before the end of that contract.

And with zero head coaching experience and no experience as a coordinator, Orgeron is worth $1+ million a year. Talk about overpaying if not overrated. 05-stirthepot

It's all relative. Orgeron's level of pay puts him in the middle tier of SEC coaches, therefore, he needs to at least have Ole Miss as a middle tier program. If he does more than that, he'll get a raise. If he does less, he'll get fired.

Petrino on the other hand is likely the highest paid Big East coach by a fairly good margin. Maybe Rich Rodriguez is close. The amount of money they are paying Petrino is essentially saying you should have us in a BCS bowl at least 2 out of every 5 years, if not more. Petrino is worth 1.5 to 2 million a year if you ask me, but 25 million over 10 is a lot.

For the record, Petrino was likely our first choice if I had to guess, though he never interviewed. As to where everyone else fell out is hard to say b/c we made contact with a lot of candidates, but only interviewed a few.

bmglennreb, when are you going to learn, this is not the place for a Coach O apologist. The guy is tool. The only thing that matches the size of his ego is that large block head of his. After Memphis I have cheered and for Ole Miss in the past. Well since O has been hired that has changed for football. Andy Kennedy is a great hire, Coach Bianco is a great coach and representative for Ole Miss, however, Coach O is a fool. I never will hide the fact that I had one friend on the old staff and the stories he's been privy to along with some things he witnessed before he left is absolutely ridiculous. Coach O is an enigma, that is praised today but will be a scapegoat down the road. Why scapegoat? Because in his defense, he was in no way qualified to earn $1 million dollar a year salary and leadership of an SEC program. Heck, he wouldn't even be a good coach in the Sunbelt. But Boone will have to face the music on this one eventually. The coaching search was a joke and the results of the search was mush mouth. lmfao

Maybe O and Jo Jo can sell some Hummers together once O's head coaching career is over. 05-stirthepot

Coach led Louisville to second bowl game in school history last season

MSNBC News Services
Updated: 36 minutes ago

Louisville and head coach Bobby Petrino have agreed on a 10-year contract that would pay him $25.5 million, ESPN reported Thursday.

ESPN said that by 2010, Petrino would earn $2 million to move into an echelon that includes currently 14 coaches.

Petrino is 29-8 in three years and led the school to the Gator Bowl against Virginia Tech last season.

I think he's one of the most overrated coaches in college football. If I was a Louisville fan, I'd be ticked that that kind of money was spent on him, especially with how he's tried to play Louisville recently.

we didn't even have to play you lmfao )

90's??? We play them THIS YEAR. If you are saying 90's as in they haven't been good since then you are either confused or know nothing about football.

And does a Memphis fan REALLY want to discuss CHOKING???

I was alluding to the fact that we've already done the home and home with Miami. Heck, even Houston can get a home and home with Miami. I'm open to talk about choking all day long. Go ahead, go find your cute dwash picture.

Louisville is a joke of a city. Louisvillians think they are the most sophisticated people in the world. I've never understood that one. I do give U of L and Louisville support for being agressive, building an on-campus stadium, and being proactive with state funding, and having great support within your community.
When Memphis tuns this corner we're approaching and takes the lead we'll be a prime target for several big-time conferences.

It looks like we got plenty to spend obviously, and by spending that money we made more money by turning those road games against C-USA into home games. Fill up Fed Ex forum for a change and you'll have a few bucks to throw around too.

Enjoy adding to that steak of final four-less seasons, and enjoy that huge rivalry you've got going with UAB and Central Florida, and enjoy the Houston Bowl.

is their crappy hoops program would have rolled on you last year.
