Those with money, don't have to brag about it and in fact usually you would not ever know it.
Same thing with good fans.
They quietly do what they do and don't run their mouth about others not doing this or that.
Its silly , its mean, and its self serving in the worst way.
JMHO
I am not as active a fan as I once was, but I make no apologies.
My life has responsibilities that take presedence over the Tigers.
I am not ashamed of that fact nor have I ever tried to appear to be what I am not.
And yes, I sleep very well.
Amen.
The "hierarchy of fandom" is one of the MULTITUDE of reasons I've elected not to post very often any more.
Simply put, this place has become quite the hell hole over the last few weeks.
Yes, I did post in the main forum about Southwest Tennessee playing for a state championship today...only because I thought some here might be interested.
JT:
As for the "list of excuses being very short" Who in the blue hell died and made you the determiner of what excuses would be considered valid?
You say that the people that watched on TV @ home today are part of the problem, when in reality it is the people like you and your ilk that are the problem.
Those of us that can't afford season tickets, can't go to all the games, etc. have our reasons. And we don't have to explain them to you or anybody.

While I'm here. We all make personal choices about our time and money. If you consider yourself a fan then you are. You support your team the best way that you can and feel good about it. If you ask yourself if you should be there for the game and your answer is yes then get there. If your answer is "no" and "Jiminey Cricket" says that's OK. Then that's OK.
I do know this...that yesterday's experience in the FEF is a memory that I will carry for the rest of my life. I am so glad that I was able to be there!
They are wonderful memories and I have had lots over the years.
I will carry them with me forever.
Because of that, I know exactly how yesterday felt.
I am glad those of you who went, had the experience.
For some, it may have been the first time you ever experienced such.
Hopefully there will be many many more.
Go Tigers!

I have a friend that sends out an email before each game asking where is everyone going to "watch" a Tiger home game. I always respond by saying we are meeting at the Forum and he can get a ticket for just $7. I follow that up by saying a real fan supports the team, and he gets very defensive about that statement asking who gives me the power to determine who is a real fan.
For Saturday's championship game, this same friend was offerred free tickets (yes, I said FREE) to the game. He decided to stay home and watch the game because he was a little tired and his girlfriend was hungover. I think this is the type of person that JTS is referring to.
Screw that guy, he sounds like a douche.

Pure BS.
A fan is a fan is a fan. Being able to go to games makes one more of a fan? No way. You will not find a bigger fan of the Tigers than me, and I didn't get to go to a single football game this year.
Fandom is "equal" across the board. The hierarchy exists on the booster level.
No one here is more of a "fan" than any other. Those that think that they are better fans than others can just shove it. You may give more money, you may give more time, but money and time do not make a fan. Those two items make boosters. Don't get me wrong I love boosters, I give as much as I can to the TSF too.
Being a "fan" comes from the heart, not the wallet or clock.
Derby, how can what I write be BS when it is in essence the same thing you wrote? There is more to being a fan than going to games. I wrote that. I did not even mention money. My boss has season tickets to both football and basketball but he also has Volunteer season tickets and will go to those games more often than Memphis games. He also gives more than I do because he makes a great deal more than I do. I hope when I am his age that I can give more. But, is he a bigger fan than I am?
You have to admit that there is a hierarchy of fandom. It runs from the casual to the rabid. It is measured by many different criteria. Most of the criteria is subjective. Attending games is only one criterion. I just think that if the opportunity and the ability to attend and participate is there, it is important to indulge in that opportunity. We unfortunately do not have kids. That does not get into the way. Our parents are not yet so incapable of caring for themselves so we can go to games. My job is secure enough now that I can do about what I want when I want to and still be able to more than ably serve my employer. Therefore, i can go to a 3:30 p.m. game or go to an away game occasionally. Those circumstances can change on a dime. When I lived where you do, I could not. We did not even have the ability to use the internet back then as we do now. I could not read the CA online or read message boards.
If you cannot go to games because of location, responsibilities or infirmities, that mitigates that criteria. If you just don't want to go downtown because it is 10:30 a.m. on Saturday............................well, then what?

You guys can cast stones all day about who the real "Fans" are all day and you'll get nowhere. If the Tigers lose a game and you wake up the next day still mad..........you are a fan. If you sit on every play you can in a Tiger game you're a fan.............that simple. I work nights so it's hard to make any games....but the Tigers have been priority #1 in my life for years......

JT, sounds like you've ruffled a few feathers. I just wish we had about 50 or 60,000 fans like you. If we did, the Liberty Bowl and FEF would not be big enough for our fan base.
Now, everybody calm down and stop being so damn sensative.
